2 AIs
I believe that every company will have 2 AIs that run their business
- The public AI that will replace the website and mobile apps and become the only way your customers will interact with your business
- Think about how expensive it is to build and maintain a digital presence, with websites, social media, mobile apps etc.
- These costs drive businesses to use platforms like Shopify, Amazon, Salesforce etc that are walled gardens that provide value through reduced initial Capex and customer reach, but cannibalise margin and lock customers and users in with a high cost to switch.
- In Bali, most SME businesses just use WhatsApp. Simple, easy, and effective.
- What if you replaced the person behind WhatsApp with an AI?
- This is happening with Meta's AI, its now embedded in WhatsApp
- The internal AI, the single interface to all your company data and business processes.
- Everybody hates the email inboxes and internal intranet sites full of policies, poor time booking systems, and slow expense systems.
- These could all be replaced with Agents working on people's behalf, instead of people working on behalf of the HR, Finance, or Sales department.
Update - 30/10/25
Interesting move by Meta, blocking 3rd party general "AI Providers" from using its Business API. Companies can till use AI powered solutions to interact with their customers, but not general Chat solutions.
Meta-owned chat app WhatsApp changed its business API policy this week to ban general-purpose chatbots from its platform. The move will likely affect WhatsApp-based assistants of companies like OpenAI, Perplexity, Khosla Ventures-backed Luzia, and General Catalyst-backed Poke.
